TEXTUAL-CONVENTION

What Is MULTI-MEDIA-MIB-TC?

This MIB module is a textual-conventions (TC) module supporting multimedia conferencing and streaming MIBs defined under IETF/vendor-neutral multimedia management standards. Rather than defining monitorable data objects itself, it establishes shared data types—most notably an internationalized string type encoded per ISO/IEC 10646-1 (UTF-8, RFC 2044)—for use by other multimedia MIB modules. Consulting the MULTI-MEDIA-MIB-TC OID list mainly turns up the mmRoot node and its child arcs rather than any pollable data, since the module contains no runtime instrumented objects and has no direct role in reporting hardware/software status such as uptime, temperature, or CPU load; its contribution to monitoring is purely definitional, enabling consistent representation of text fields (e.g., participant names, session titles) in the MIBs that import it. It is explicitly dependent on modules that import its textual conventions to build actual multimedia conferencing/streaming management objects. It would be deployed wherever standards-based multimedia conferencing or streaming servers/endpoints are managed via SNMP.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MULTI-MEDIA-MIB-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • multimedia conferencing/streaming servers and endpoints

Monitoring Examples

This module defines no runtime data objects of its own; its only artifact is the mmRoot node and the UTF-8 string textual convention used by dependent multimedia MIBs. There is no monitoring scenario to describe directly against this module—an admin would instead poll objects in a MIB that imports these conventions, such as a conferencing session or participant table, and see this module's string type used to render names.
