Description: Defines SmartOptics M-Series textual conventions and enumerated type definitions.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MSERIES-TC?
MSERIES-TC is a SmartOptics enterprise MIB that defines textual conventions (TC) and enumerated type definitions shared across the SmartOptics M-Series optical networking product line. It does not itself expose live operational data; instead it establishes common data types, such as enumerated status codes, used consistently by other M-Series MIB modules covering optical interfaces, transceivers, and chassis components. Its monitoring relevance is indirect but foundational: the enumerations it defines typically underpin how other M-Series MIBs represent hardware health states, such as module presence, alarm severity, or operational/administrative status, so correct interpretation of those fields relies on this module. Because it is a textual-conventions module, essentially every other SmartOptics M-Series MIB in the product family depends on it for consistent type definitions. It is deployed as a supporting/imported module wherever SmartOptics M-Series optical transport or DWDM equipment is managed via SNMP. Engineers can download the MSERIES-TC file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MSERIES-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- SmartOptics M-Series optical transport equipment
Monitoring Examples
A management application compiling a SmartOptics M-Series optical-interface MIB imports enumerated types from MSERIES-TC to correctly decode fields like a module's operational status or alarm severity into human-readable states. Without this module loaded, other M-Series MIB values would appear as raw, unlabeled integers, making it impossible to distinguish a normal state from a fault condition on the optical hardware.
What Can Be Monitored
- shared status enumerations
- alarm severity codes
- textual convention type definitions used by other M-Series MIBs
