Category: RMON
Description: Defines MRV In-Reach BPD trap notifications for system and port alarm events.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MRV-IR-TRAP-MIB?
MRV-IR-TRAP-MIB is an MRV Communications proprietary MIB, explicitly described as "the MRV LX Trap MIB module," for the In-Reach console/terminal server product line, defining trap/notification objects for system and port alarm events. It exposes trap payload fields such as a timestamp (irTimeStamp), the user responsible for triggering an event (irUserName), the source IP address (irIpAddress), and a descriptive text string (irTextString), bundled under irTraps/irTrapObjects. This is explicitly a fault/event-notification MIB — its purpose is to alert on administrative or software events (e.g., configuration changes, login events, port alarms) on the device, timestamped and attributed to a user, rather than to expose polled hardware gauges. No other MIB dependency is indicated beyond standard SNMP notification conventions. It is deployed on MRV In-Reach LX console/terminal servers used for out-of-band management of data-center and network equipment. Engineers can download the MRV-IR-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MRV-IR-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- MRV In-Reach LX console/terminal server
Monitoring Examples
When a port alarm or administrative change occurs on an MRV In-Reach LX device, a trap under irTraps is emitted carrying irTimeStamp, irUserName, and irIpAddress identifying who made the change and from where, along with an irTextString description; an NMS receiving repeated traps with the same irIpAddress/irUserName combination in a short window could flag unauthorized or unusual repeated configuration access.
What Can Be Monitored
- trap event timestamp
- triggering user identity
- source IP address of event
- trap event description text
- system/port alarm events
