Category: Hardware Inventory

Description: Monitors Dell OpenManage Essentials server inventory and health event data.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MIB-Dell-OME?

MIB-Dell-OME is Dell's enterprise MIB for Dell OpenManage Essentials (OME), a systems-management console that aggregates hardware and health alerts from Dell servers, storage, and other managed devices. Rather than modeling individual hardware sensors itself, it defines a generic alert/trap structure - device identity, alert message text, and alert severity - used to forward OME's consolidated health events over SNMP to upstream monitoring systems. Because OME itself collects detailed hardware/software status (temperature, power supply, fan, disk, RAID, firmware/BIOS state, process/service health) from managed Dell devices, this MIB's traps effectively carry summarized notifications of those underlying hardware and software faults. It depends heavily on Dell's OpenManage server-management stack and the underlying device MIBs/CIM data OME polls, acting as a forwarding layer rather than a primary data source. It is typically deployed in Dell-centric data centers where OpenManage Essentials serves as the central console, and MIB-Dell-OME SNMP monitoring forwards its alerts via SNMP trap to a broader NMS like SolarWinds or Nagios.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MIB-Dell-OME. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell PowerEdge server or Dell device managed by OpenManage Essentials

Monitoring Examples

An NMS would receive an omeAlertMessage trap containing omeAlertDevice (the originating Dell server or component) and omeAlertSeverity, and would alert on high-severity messages such as a failed power supply, degraded RAID volume, or fan failure reported upstream by OME. Because the MIB carries free-text omeAlertMessage content rather than granular per-sensor OIDs, monitoring is done by parsing message severity and text patterns rather than polling discrete counters. A spike in critical-severity omeAlertSeverity traps from a single omeAlertDevice would indicate a serious hardware fault on that server needing immediate attention.

What Can Be Monitored

  • alert message text
  • originating device identity
  • alert severity level
  • trap-based hardware/software fault notifications
