Description: Meinberg Radio Clocks XPT (Expandable PTP/NTP) device MIB providing precision time protocol and frequency management objects.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MBG-SNMP-XPT-MIB?
MBG-SNMP-XPT-MIB is a Meinberg enterprise MIB for the XPT family of precision timing devices, covering GPS-based reference clocks used to discipline NTP/PTP time servers. It exposes reference-clock configuration and status objects for up to multiple GPS reference inputs, including receiver type/mode, GPS lock state, antenna/position data, and satellite counts (in view versus actually used/'good'). Its monitoring value is centered on the hardware status of the timing subsystem: whether the GPS receiver has a valid position fix, how many satellites it is tracking, and whether the reference clock is in a healthy locked state, all of which determine the trustworthiness of the time the device distributes. As a timing appliance MIB it sits at the top of Meinberg's SNMP enterprise tree and is typically used alongside other Meinberg system/NTP MIBs for full device status, though this module focuses specifically on GPS reference and SCU (System Clock Unit) objects. It is deployed on Meinberg time servers/clocks in data centers, broadcast facilities, or telecom sites requiring precise, GPS-disciplined timing. Engineers can download the MBG-SNMP-XPT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MBG-SNMP-XPT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Meinberg XPT GPS reference clock modules (LANTIME time servers)
Monitoring Examples
An admin would check mbgGPSRef1GpsStateVal to confirm the GPS receiver is in a locked/valid state, and mbgGPSRef1GpsSatellitesGood versus mbgGPSRef1GpsSatellitesInView to see how many visible satellites are actually being used for the fix -- a low 'good' count despite many in view could indicate antenna or signal-quality problems. mbgGPSRefclock1Mode and mbgGPSRefclock1Type confirm the receiver's configured operating mode matches the installed hardware. A degraded or unlocked GPS state here would explain drifting or unreliable NTP/PTP time distributed by the appliance.
What Can Be Monitored
- GPS lock/reference state
- satellites in view vs. satellites used
- GPS antenna position
- receiver type and mode
- reference clock configuration
