Description: Ericsson SNMP master agent MIB defining configuration and subagent registration objects for the Ericsson SNMP master agent framework.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MASTERAGENT-MIB?

MASTERAGENT-MIB is an Ericsson MIB defining the AgentX master agent framework used by Ericsson's SNMP infrastructure, covering configuration and registration of subagents that plug into the master agent. It exposes objects related to AgentX session management, including the reason a subagent's session was closed, alongside the top-level "masteragent" identity node. As an infrastructure/software-status MIB, it is used to monitor the health of the SNMP management plane itself -- whether subagents remain connected and registered, and why a session terminated (e.g., timeout, shutdown, or protocol error) -- rather than reporting on end-user hardware like fans or PSUs. It directly depends on the IETF AgentX protocol (RFC 2741) concepts, of which this MIB is Ericsson's management wrapper. It is typically deployed on Ericsson network elements that use a modular AgentX-based SNMP architecture, where multiple functional subagents register with a common master agent, and engineers often start with a MASTERAGENT-MIB download to load these definitions into their MIB browser before troubleshooting subagent connectivity.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MASTERAGENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson network elements using AgentX-based modular SNMP architecture

Monitoring Examples

An operator can watch agentxSessionCloseReason to determine why a subagent (e.g., a feature-specific MIB implementation) disconnected from the master agent -- values indicating a timeout or protocol violation would point to a misbehaving subagent process rather than the master agent itself. This is primarily useful for troubleshooting missing OIDs from a particular subagent's MIB tree rather than for end-user traffic monitoring.

What Can Be Monitored

  • subagent session close reason
  • master agent/subagent registration state
