Category: Device Management

Description: SNMP MIB for LS100 series devices providing device management, interface status, and configuration objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LS100-MIB?

LS100-MIB is an NEC-specific MIB module for the LS100 series of network devices, providing device management, interface configuration, and operational status objects. It exposes node-level operational status, per-interface physical type and revision/configuration data, and traffic-shaping buffer parameters used for usage parameter control and buffer management. Notably it includes direct hardware health indicators — nodeOperStatus reports overall node operational state and nodeFanStatus reports cooling fan health, making this MIB useful for monitoring whether the device and its interfaces are functioning correctly. It is an NEC enterprise-specific extension MIB, layered under NEC's private enterprise MIB tree rather than a standards-based MIB, so it depends on NEC's own product/management conventions rather than IETF standards. It is deployed on NEC LS100 series switching/transport nodes where both interface configuration and basic hardware health (fan, node status) need to be tracked. Engineers can download the LS100-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LS100-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NEC LS100 series switching/transport node

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll nodeOperStatus to confirm the LS100 node is operating normally, and check nodeFanStatus to detect a failed or degraded cooling fan before it leads to thermal shutdown. The nodeIfConfTable/nodeIfConfEntry (indexed by nodeIfConfIndex) exposes nodeIfConfPhysType, nodeIfConfRev, and nodeIfConfStatus per interface, letting an operator confirm each interface is enabled and correctly configured; unexpected values in nodeBestEffortBufferThreshold or nodeGuaranteedBufferSize could reveal traffic buffer exhaustion under load.

What Can Be Monitored

  • node operational status
  • fan status
  • interface physical type/revision
  • interface configuration status
  • buffer size/threshold settings
