Description: Hirschmann Automation LLDP extension MIB providing proprietary TLV objects for industrial automation network topology discovery.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LLDP-EXT-HM-MIB?

LLDP-EXT-HM-MIB is a Hirschmann Automation and Control proprietary extension to the standard LLDP-MIB (IEEE 802.1AB), branched under Hirschmann's OUI to carry vendor-specific Link Layer Discovery Protocol TLVs for industrial Ethernet switches. It exposes configuration and transmit-enable objects for protocol-specific TLVs covering GMRP, IGMP, port security, and PTP (Precision Time Protocol) settings advertised via LLDP. Rather than hardware health sensors, it is used to monitor and control which layer-2 protocol capabilities (multicast pruning, port security, time synchronization) a switch port advertises to its neighbors, which is valuable for verifying network topology and protocol configuration consistency across an industrial automation network. It explicitly depends on and extends the IETF LLDP-MIB (and by extension IEEE 802.1AB), since it is defined as a branch of lldpExtensions. It is typically deployed on Hirschmann managed industrial Ethernet switches used in factory automation, process control, and other operational technology (OT) networks requiring precise time sync and controlled multicast/broadcast behavior. Engineers can download the LLDP-EXT-HM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LLDP-EXT-HM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hirschmann managed industrial Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An engineer could poll lldpXHmConfigPTPTable/lldpXHmConfigPTPTxEnable per port to confirm that Precision Time Protocol advertisement is enabled where synchronized industrial clocks are required, and disabled elsewhere. Checking lldpXHmConfigGMRPTxEnable and lldpXHmConfigIGMPTxEnable across lldpXHmConfigGMRPTable/lldpXHmConfigIGMPTable reveals whether multicast registration protocols are being advertised consistently on trunk ports, helping diagnose multicast flooding issues. lldpXHmConfigPortSecTable/lldpXHmConfigPortSecTxEnable exposes whether port-security TLV advertisement is active, useful for auditing which ports are hardened against unauthorized device attachment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • GMRP TLV advertisement per port
  • IGMP TLV advertisement per port
  • port security TLV advertisement
  • PTP (time sync) TLV advertisement per port
