What Is LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NSM-STORAGE-MIB?

LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NSM-STORAGE-MIB is a vendor MIB originally from LeftHand Networks and carried forward under HP StorageWorks branding for the P4000 SAN storage node platform, covering physical storage devices, RAID arrays, volumes, and snapshots. It exposes hardware-oriented inventory and health data: a count and table of storage devices, and a RAID table describing each array's description, RAID mode, capacity, minimum speed, and current status/state. This is squarely hardware-status monitoring -- storageRaidStatus and storageRaidState let an admin detect a degraded, rebuilding, or failed RAID array before it causes data loss, and storageDeviceTable tracks individual disk presence and count. It is a self-contained enterprise storage MIB with its own conformance/compliance groups, though it fits within HP's broader StorageWorks P4000 management framework. It is deployed on HP StorageWorks (LeftHand) P4000 SAN storage nodes used for clustered iSCSI storage in virtualization and enterprise environments. Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll storageRaidTable/storageRaidEntry to read storageRaidStatus and storageRaidState for each array, alerting if status transitions from normal to degraded or rebuilding, and cross-check storageRaidCapacity against expected provisioned capacity. storageDeviceCount and storageDeviceTable would be walked to confirm the expected number of physical drives are still present in the storage node, flagging a missing or failed disk.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using storageRaidStatsIOsRead OID:

Select an HP StorageWorks (LeftHand) P4000 SAN storage node (RAID/storage devices) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type storageRaidStatsIOsRead into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports a counter of IO read operations on the NSM. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline (in operations), since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
