Description: Provides managed objects for event logging and notification management on Juniper Networks routing and switching platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is JUNIPER-EVENT-MIB?

JUNIPER-EVENT-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB providing generic event logging and notification management across Juniper routing and switching platforms. It exposes objects representing logged system events and their attributes, along with SNMP notifications that fire when significant events occur on the device. As a fault/event-monitoring MIB, its core purpose is to surface software and system-level events -- errors, warnings, state changes -- so an administrator can be alerted to problems without having to poll every individual feature-specific MIB. It is a general-purpose Juniper enterprise extension that underlies or complements many other Juniper feature MIBs (such as configuration management and MAC notification) by providing a common event/trap framework. Typical deployment is any Juniper router or switch where centralized event-driven alerting is configured via an SNMP trap receiver or NMS. Engineers can download the JUNIPER-EVENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in JUNIPER-EVENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper router
  • Juniper switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would subscribe to the event notifications from this MIB and poll any accompanying event-log table to see the most recent system events, catching, for example, a hardware fault or software process restart reported as a generic event. No sample objects were extracted for this module, so exact table/column names are unconfirmed, but the module description confirms its scope is generic event notification. This MIB is best used as a catch-all alerting mechanism rather than a source of detailed performance counters.

What Can Be Monitored

  • system event log entries
  • event notifications/traps
  • event severity/type
  • recent system state changes
