Category: Alarm and Event Management, Domain: Storage, Vendor: EMC, Vendor: Isilon

Description: Isilon Systems NAS trap MIB defining SNMP notification objects for cluster events, disk failures, and quota threshold alerts.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ISILON-TRAP-MIB?

ISILON-TRAP-MIB is the companion notification MIB to ISILON-MIB, defining the SNMP traps Isilon OneFS clusters send for fault and threshold-crossing conditions rather than pollable status objects. It carries varbinds identifying the affected node, the measured value and its units, relevant object identifiers, and contextual fields like bay, interface name, and error codes/messages. Its purpose is explicitly fault and event monitoring: traps grouped under categories like group-state changes (cluster membership events), filesystem traps (disk/filesystem issues), and smart-quota traps (storage quota threshold breaches), giving near-real-time notice of hardware or software problems such as a failed disk bay or a filesystem nearing capacity. It is designed to work alongside ISILON-MIB, whose polled objects provide the steady-state context that these traps interrupt. Deployment context is the same Isilon OneFS clusters as ISILON-MIB, configured to send SNMP traps to a monitoring station for alerting. Engineers can download the ISILON-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ISILON-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Isilon (EMC/Dell) OneFS scale-out NAS cluster

Monitoring Examples

A monitoring station receiving a trap from the filesystemTraps group would inspect nodeIdentifier and bay to pinpoint which node and disk bay triggered the event, along with errorMessage and errno for the specific failure cause. A smartQuotaTraps notification would include measuredValue and units to show how far a quota has been exceeded. groupStateTraps notify when cluster group membership changes, such as a node leaving the cluster, complementing the onlineNodes/offlineNodes counters in ISILON-MIB.

What Can Be Monitored

  • disk/filesystem fault events
  • cluster group membership changes
  • storage quota threshold breaches
  • affected node and bay identification
  • error codes and messages
