Description: Isilon Systems (EMC/Dell) scale-out NAS MIB providing SNMP objects for cluster health, quota, and filesystem monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ISILON-MIB?

ISILON-MIB is a vendor MIB from Isilon Systems (later EMC/Dell EMC) for its OneFS scale-out NAS clustered storage platform, exposing cluster-wide identity, health, node membership, and throughput statistics. It provides data on cluster name and GUID, overall cluster health status, node counts (configured, online, offline), and traffic counters for both the internal filesystem (IFS) network and the external client-facing network. Its monitoring emphasis is explicitly on hardware and software status of the storage cluster: overall clusterHealth, whether all configuredNodes are onlineNodes versus offlineNodes (flagging a node outage), and throughput levels via clusterIfsInBytes/clusterIfsOutBytes that reveal load or bottleneck conditions. It is a standalone proprietary MIB, though it is commonly deployed alongside ISILON-TRAP-MIB for fault notifications. Deployment context is enterprise or media/entertainment environments running Isilon OneFS clusters for large-scale unstructured data storage. Engineers can download the ISILON-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ISILON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Isilon (EMC/Dell) OneFS scale-out NAS cluster

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll clusterHealth and compare onlineNodes against configuredNodes to detect a node that has dropped out of the cluster, a critical early-warning signal for redundancy loss. clusterIfsInBitsPerSecond and clusterIfsOutBitsPerSecond would be tracked over time to spot unusual internal filesystem traffic spikes, potentially indicating a rebalance operation or a performance bottleneck. clusterNetworkInBytes gives visibility into external client traffic load, useful for capacity planning, and clusterGUID/clusterName confirm which cluster is being reported on in a multi-cluster environment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • overall cluster health
  • online vs offline node count
  • internal filesystem network throughput
  • external client network throughput
  • cluster identity (name/GUID)
