Category: Device Management, Hardware and Environment

Description: I/O module MIB providing SNMP objects for managing I/O module cards including port status and traffic counters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IOMMIB?

IOMMIB is Adaptec's I/O Manager MIB, providing SNMP objects for managing storage I/O module devices such as tape drives, autoloaders, and other removable-media storage peripherals under Adaptec's Storage Manager framework. It exposes a device table describing each attached storage device's type, sub-identifier, and media block size, along with status fields for formatted media capacity, whether the device uses removable media, and whether media is currently loaded. It is used explicitly to monitor hardware status - devLoaded reveals whether removable media like a tape cartridge is currently inserted, and devFormattedMediaCapacity tracks available capacity, both critical for catching a missing-media or device-offline condition before a scheduled backup job runs. It sits under Adaptec's proprietary storageManager/ioManager MIB tree and is largely independent of IETF storage standards. It is deployed on servers or storage subsystems using Adaptec storage controllers to manage tape or removable-media devices. Engineers can download the IOMMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IOMMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Adaptec storage controllers/I-O modules
  • tape and removable-media storage devices

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll deviceTable/devEntry per devIndex to enumerate attached storage devices, checking devLoaded to confirm whether removable media is currently inserted and devFormattedMediaCapacity to track available capacity on that media. A devLoaded value of false during a scheduled backup window would flag a missing tape cartridge before the job fails. devRemovableDevice distinguishes fixed drives from removable-media units, and devType/devTypeDescr identify the class of each device in the inventory.

What Can Be Monitored

  • media loaded status
  • formatted media capacity
  • media block size
  • removable device flag
  • device type per slot
  • agent firmware revision (major/minor)
