What Is IANA-GMPLS-TC-MIB?

IANA-GMPLS-TC-MIB is an IETF/IANA-maintained textual-conventions module (originally published in RFC 4802) that defines shared data types and enumerations used by GMPLS (Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching) signaling MIBs, rather than exposing any runtime managed objects itself. It belongs to the IANA registry-maintenance family of MIBs, alongside similar TC-only modules, and exists so that GMPLS-related MIBs across vendors share a consistent set of type definitions. As a textual-conventions-only module it carries no monitorable runtime data such as uptime, temperature, or interface counters; its role is purely definitional, updated by IANA as new GMPLS values are registered. Any GMPLS signaling or traffic-engineering MIB that models optical or MPLS switching depends on this module for its shared type definitions. It is used indirectly wherever GMPLS-capable optical/MPLS-TP network elements are managed via vendor MIBs that import these IANA-defined conventions. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the IANA-GMPLS-TC-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IANA-GMPLS-TC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • GMPLS-capable optical/MPLS switching network elements (indirectly, via importing MIBs)

Monitoring Examples

This module is definitional/conformance in nature, it defines Textual Conventions (shared data types and enumerations) for GMPLS signaling rather than any runtime data objects, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; other GMPLS MIBs import its type definitions.
