Description: Huawei VP ring MIB for managing ATM virtual path ring protection and VP-level APS (Automatic Protection Switching).

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-VPRING-MIB?

HUAWEI-VPRING-MIB is a Huawei-proprietary module for managing ATM Virtual Path (VP) ring protection, implementing VP-level Automatic Protection Switching (APS) on Huawei ATM/SDH transport equipment. It exposes configuration and state data describing ring topology, protection switching mode, working/protection VP assignments, and switch-event status. Administrators rely on it to monitor the health of the protection mechanism itself, detecting when a ring has switched to protection, when a fiber cut or VP failure has occurred, and whether the ring is in a normal or degraded protection state. As an ATM-oriented technology, it builds on underlying ATM interface and VP/VC MIBs for its base connection model. It is typically deployed in carrier and metro transport networks using Huawei ATM/SDH multiplexers where ring resiliency is required for continuous service delivery, and a HUAWEI-VPRING-MIB download is typically the first step to load the module for SNMP polling.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-VPRING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei ATM/SDH transport equipment (VP ring nodes)

Monitoring Examples

No specific object or table names were sampled for this MIB; consistent with its purpose, an operator would poll ring/APS state objects to determine whether a VP ring is running on its working path or has switched to protection, and would check switch-count and last-switch-reason objects to catch recurring instability such as a flapping fiber link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VP ring protection state
  • working vs protection path selection
  • APS switch event count
  • ring topology status
