Category: Network Monitoring (RMON), Technology: Network Monitoring, Vendor: Huawei

Description: Huawei RMON MIB implementing standard RMON statistics, history, alarms, and event groups for network monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-RMON-MIB?

HUAWEI-RMON-MIB is a Huawei implementation of the standard Remote Monitoring (RMON) MIB, providing the classic statistics, history, alarm, and event groups for monitoring traffic on Huawei switch and router interfaces. It exposes per-interface traffic statistics (packet/byte/error counters), historical sampled data over configurable intervals, threshold-based alarms, and the event log/actions triggered when those alarms fire. For monitoring, it is a core traffic-performance tool: administrators use its statistics and history groups to track interface utilization and error rates over time, and configure alarms to proactively flag abnormal conditions such as a spike in CRC errors, broadcast storms, or utilization exceeding capacity thresholds, all software-reported indicators of network or hardware-interface health. It is a Huawei implementation of the IETF standard RMON-MIB (RFC 2819), so it directly depends on and conforms to that standard's object structure. It is deployed broadly across Huawei switches and routers wherever proactive, threshold-based traffic monitoring is required. Engineers can download the HUAWEI-RMON-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-RMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei switches
  • Huawei routers

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided, but a typical scenario would be configuring an RMON alarm on an interface's error or utilization counter with a rising/falling threshold, so that an event/trap fires automatically when, for example, CRC error counts spike, revealing a failing cable or duplex mismatch on that port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • interface traffic statistics
  • historical traffic samples
  • threshold alarms
  • RMON event log
