Description: Huawei M-LAG (Multi-chassis Link Aggregation Group) MIB for managing dual-active link aggregation across two chassis.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-M-LAG-MIB?

HUAWEI-M-LAG-MIB manages Multi-chassis Link Aggregation Group (M-LAG), a Huawei dual-active technology that lets two physical switch chassis appear as a single logical device for link-aggregation and redundancy purposes. It exposes an objects branch (hwMLagObjects) for M-LAG configuration and peer-relationship state, a notifications branch (hwMLagNotifications) for M-LAG-related traps, and a conformance branch (hwMLagConformance) defining compliance groups. Its monitoring relevance centers on redundancy/high-availability hardware-software state: administrators track M-LAG peer status and role (active/standby) to confirm dual-active redundancy is healthy, since an M-LAG split-brain or peer-link failure can cause a serious network outage or loop. It is a Huawei-private technology module with no direct IETF standard dependency, though it builds on standard 802.3ad/LACP link-aggregation concepts underneath. It is deployed on pairs of Huawei data-center or campus core switches configured for M-LAG to provide chassis-level redundancy without requiring physical stacking, where HUAWEI-M-LAG-MIB SNMP monitoring confirms peer-link and role state stay synchronized between the two chassis.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-M-LAG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei data-center switches
  • Huawei campus core switches (M-LAG pairs)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll objects under hwMLagObjects to check M-LAG peer-link status and the active/standby role of each chassis in the M-LAG pair, and would configure trap receivers to catch notifications from hwMLagNotifications when peer-link state changes. A peer-link-down notification combined with both chassis reporting an active role would indicate a dangerous M-LAG split-brain condition, requiring immediate attention to avoid a Layer 2 loop or duplicate forwarding. The hwMLagConformance branch itself defines only compliance/requirement groups and is not something polled for runtime data.

What Can Be Monitored

  • M-LAG peer-link status
  • M-LAG chassis active/standby role
  • M-LAG peer relationship health
  • M-LAG split-brain/failure notifications
