Description: Huawei Layer 2 multicast MIB for managing IGMP snooping, MLD snooping, and multicast group forwarding on Huawei Layer 2 switching platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HUAWEI-L2MULTICAST-MIB?
HUAWEI-L2MULTICAST-MIB is a Huawei-specific MIB for Layer 2 switching platforms that manages IGMP and MLD snooping, the mechanism switches use to selectively forward multicast traffic based on group membership instead of flooding it to every port. It exposes configuration data such as per-VLAN and per-VSI multicast settings, query intervals, and router aging timers, alongside enable/disable flags for the snooping service. It is primarily useful for monitoring the software/protocol health of the switch's multicast handling: whether snooping is actually enabled where expected, whether query and aging timers are set correctly, and whether the multicast router-facing interface is being tracked properly. It works alongside standard IETF multicast MIBs but adds Huawei-specific VLAN/VSI granularity not covered by those standards. It is typically deployed on Huawei enterprise and carrier Layer 2 switches, including VPLS/VSI-enabled platforms, to keep multicast video/data delivery efficient and to avoid unnecessary flooding, and the HUAWEI-L2MULTICAST-MIB download lets administrators load it directly into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-L2MULTICAST-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Huawei Layer 2 switches
- Huawei VPLS/VSI-capable switches
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll hwL2mcCfgTable/hwL2mcCfgEntry, indexed by hwL2mcVlanIndex or hwL2mcVsiName, to check hwL2mcEnabled per VLAN and confirm snooping hasn't been silently disabled after a config change. Watching hwL2mcRouterAgingTime and hwL2mcMaxQueryRespTime together with hwL2mcLastMemQueryInterval can reveal a misconfigured timer causing multicast groups to age out too quickly, which shows up as intermittent multicast stream drops. hwSendQueryEnabled and hwSendQuerySourceIpAddr indicate whether the switch itself is generating IGMP queries, useful when troubleshooting a network with no external multicast router.
What Can Be Monitored
- IGMP/MLD snooping enable status per VLAN
- multicast router aging time
- query response and last-member-query intervals
- query source IP address
- VSI-based multicast configuration

Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) is the protocol used by IPv4 end hosts to indicate their interest in receiving multicast traffic for certain multicast groups to neighboring multicast routers. IGMP Snooping is a switch protocol. A switch that implements IGMP Snooping listens to the IGMP messages exchanged between the hosts and router, then provides selective transmission of multicast traffic based on multicast mac destination address or multicast group address. | ||
