Description: Huawei Ethernet optics module MIB providing inventory and DDM diagnostic monitoring objects for pluggable optical transceiver modules.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-ETHERNET-OPTICSMODULE-MIB?

HUAWEI-ETHERNET-OPTICSMODULE-MIB is a Huawei-proprietary MIB implemented on Huawei switches and routers to provide inventory and Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) data for pluggable Ethernet optical transceiver modules such as SFP, SFP+, and QSFP. Its data covers module inventory/identification objects (vendor, part number, serial number) alongside real-time DDM readings including temperature, supply voltage, laser bias current, and transmit/receive optical power for each installed transceiver. This makes it a direct hardware-health monitoring MIB: it lets an operator watch optical module temperature and power levels for early warning of transceiver degradation, laser aging, or dirty/misaligned fiber connections before a link actually fails. It complements standard interface MIBs (such as IF-MIB) by adding physical-layer optical diagnostics for the ports those interfaces represent, and its structure loosely parallels the SFF-8472 DDM standard used industry-wide. It is deployed wherever Huawei switches or routers use pluggable optics, particularly in service-provider and data-center links, where HUAWEI-ETHERNET-OPTICSMODULE-MIB SNMP monitoring helps predict fiber or transceiver failures before they cause outages.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-ETHERNET-OPTICSMODULE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei switches
  • Huawei routers with pluggable optics
  • Huawei switches/routers with pluggable SFP/SFP+/QSFP optical transceivers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll the per-port optics module table for transmit and receive optical power alongside module temperature to catch a transceiver whose receive power is trending toward its low-alarm threshold, which often precedes a fiber link failure. Comparable *Table/*Entry structures indexed by slot/port would be walked to compare bias current and voltage readings across multiple modules of the same type, spotting one unit degrading relative to its peers. A module reporting temperature or voltage outside its rated range would indicate a failing transceiver that should be proactively replaced.

What Can Be Monitored

  • optical transmit power
  • optical receive power
  • laser bias current
  • module temperature and supply voltage
  • module vendor/serial inventory data
