Category: RADIUS and AAA, Vendor: H3C/HH3C, Vendor: HP/HPE

Description: Manages local user accounts, privilege levels, and password policies for device access on HP/Comware devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-USER-MIB?

HPN-ICF-USER-MIB is an HP/Comware ICF MIB for managing local user accounts used to authenticate administrative access to the device, covering usernames, passwords, authentication mode, privilege level, and account state. It exposes a user information table plus a related user-attribute table with access-limit settings, giving a full picture of who can log into the device and with what privileges. Its monitoring role is security/configuration auditing rather than hardware health: administrators verify which local accounts exist, their privilege level and enabled/disabled state, catching unauthorized or overprivileged accounts and confirming access-limit policies are enforced. It is a vendor-specific access-control MIB with no strong dependency on external standard MIBs, though it parallels concepts in the IETF SNMPv3 USM/VACM security model. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware routers and switches wherever local (non-RADIUS/TACACS+) user accounts are used for device management, and administrators can download the HPN-ICF-USER-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-USER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware router or switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls hpnicfUserInfoTable/hpnicfUserInfoEntry to list every hpnicfUserName along with its hpnicfUserLevel and hpnicfUserState, checking for unexpected accounts with an administrative privilege level. hpnicfAuthMode reveals whether an account authenticates locally or defers to an external mechanism, and hpnicfUserInfoRowStatus shows whether an entry is fully active. The hpnicfUserAttributeTable's hpnicfAccessLimit can be checked to confirm concurrent-login limits are enforced for a given account, flagging accounts that could allow unrestricted simultaneous sessions.

What Can Be Monitored

  • local user account list
  • user privilege level
  • account enabled/disabled state
  • authentication mode per user
  • concurrent access/login limit
