Category: Device Management, SNMP Framework, Vendor: H3C/HH3C, Vendor: HP/HPE
Description: Provides object information and metadata registry for HP/Comware SNMP management infrastructure.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HPN-ICF-OBJECT-INFO-MIB?
HPN-ICF-OBJECT-INFO-MIB is a private infrastructure MIB in the HP/H3C Comware (ICF) enterprise MIB family, used internally by the SNMP agent to advertise which management objects and MIB modules it actually supports. Rather than exposing device performance or configuration data itself, it acts as a capability-discovery registry that a network management station (NMS) can query before invoking other MIBs, ensuring compatibility across firmware versions and platform variants. It exposes metadata about object support rather than categories like interfaces, environment, or traffic counters directly. Its monitoring role is indirect: it helps an NMS determine whether hardware/software status objects (fan, power, temperature, CPU, memory MIBs, etc.) are present on a given Comware device before polling them, avoiding failed GET requests. It depends on the broader HPN-ICF/Comware private MIB tree and is typically deployed alongside other HPN-ICF-* modules on HP/H3C Comware switches and routers as a compatibility layer for NMS software. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-OBJECT-INFO-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-OBJECT-INFO-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/H3C Comware-based switches and routers
- HPE Networking devices
Monitoring Examples
The MIB exposes a single object, hpnicfObjectInformation, which returns metadata (such as supported OIDs or capability flags) that management software queries to check whether a specific feature MIB is implemented on the connected agent. In practice, an NMS would poll hpnicfObjectInformation once at discovery time to decide whether it is safe to subsequently poll environmental or interface MIBs on that device, rather than to detect a runtime anomaly. Because it is a metadata/discovery object rather than a live counter, it does not itself surface faults or performance data.
What Can Be Monitored
