Description: HP ServerNet (Foundry-heritage) SNMP MIB for Layer 4 server load balancing switch group configuration on HP SN devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HP-SN-SW-L4-SWITCH-GROUP-MIB?

HP-SN-SW-L4-SWITCH-GROUP-MIB is an HP ServerNet (Foundry-heritage) SNMP module for managing Layer 4 server load-balancing (SLB) switch functions on HP SN devices. It exposes configuration limits (session/SYN limits) and live load-balancing statistics such as connection counts, forwarded/reverse traffic, drops, and aging/finished-session counters for virtual and real servers. Its monitoring focus is performance/traffic-load status of the load-balancing function — tracking total active connections, connection drops, and limit-exceeded events to detect an overloaded SLB service or an under-provisioned session table, which is a software/traffic-performance concern rather than a hardware one. It is a standalone Foundry/HP proprietary group with no formal dependency on a standard load-balancing MIB. It is deployed on HP SN Layer 4/7 switches performing server load balancing in front of server farms. Engineers can download the HP-SN-SW-L4-SWITCH-GROUP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-SN-SW-L4-SWITCH-GROUP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP ServerNet (SN) Layer 4/7 load-balancing switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator can poll snL4slbTotalConnections and snL4slbLimitExceeds to see current connection load against the configured snL4MaxSessionLimit and snL4TcpSynLimit, and would investigate a rising snL4slbDrops or snL4slbDisableCount as a sign that real servers behind a snL4VirtualServer are being marked down or overwhelmed. Tracking snL4slbForwardTraffic versus snL4slbReverseTraffic reveals whether traffic is flowing asymmetrically through the load balancer.

What Can Be Monitored

  • total active connections
  • connection limit-exceeded events
  • connection drops
  • forward/reverse traffic volume
  • virtual/real server status
