Setting a higher administrative distance for a route can be used for the following reasons: - by configuring multiple static routes to the same destination, one with the default distance and one with a higher distance, one can configure backup static routes - by configuring a static route with an administrative distance higher than the distance for a particular dynamic routing protocol, one can allow a static route to be overridden by dynamic routing information. Routes with an administrative distance of 255 will never be entered in the routing table.
