Description: Hirschmann HiOS (HM2) MSRP MIB for Multiple Stream Reservation Protocol (IEEE 802.1Qat) configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HM2-PLATFORM-MSRP-MIB?

HM2-PLATFORM-MSRP-MIB is a Hirschmann private HiOS Platform2 MIB implementing IEEE 802.1Qat Multiple Stream Reservation Protocol (MSRP) and related 802.1Qav configuration on Hirschmann managed switches. It exposes per-port MSRP enable state, failed-registration counts, last PDU origin, PVID, and bridge-wide settings such as talker pruning and maximum fan-in ports, together with stream reservation entries and MRP statistics. This is chiefly a software/protocol-status MIB used to confirm that time-sensitive stream reservations are being registered successfully, with failed-registration counters and stats revealing reservation problems rather than physical hardware issues. It depends on the IEEE 802.1Qat/802.1Qav standards and complements the companion MMRP MIB and standard bridge MIBs. It is deployed on Hirschmann industrial switches carrying time-sensitive/audio-video streaming traffic that relies on MSRP stream reservations. Engineers can download the HM2-PLATFORM-MSRP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HM2-PLATFORM-MSRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hirschmann industrial Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

hm2AgentDot1qPortMsrpTable/Entry rows, keyed by hm2AgentDot1qMsrpPort, expose hm2AgentDot1qPortMsrpEnabledStatus and hm2AgentDot1qPortMsrpFailedRegistrations; a rising failed-registration count indicates streams are being rejected on that port, perhaps due to insufficient reserved bandwidth. hm2AgentDot1qPortMsrpLastPduOrigin helps identify which talker most recently registered, and hm2AgentDot1qBridgeMsrpMaxFanInPorts/hm2AgentDot1qBridgeMsrpTalkerPruning let an admin confirm the bridge-wide reservation limits and pruning behavior match the network's stream requirements, with hm2AgentDot1qMsrpStreamTable listing active stream reservations.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port MSRP enabled status
  • failed stream registrations
  • last MSRP PDU origin
  • bridge MSRP talker pruning setting
  • max fan-in ports
  • active MSRP stream reservations

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hm2AgentDot1qMrpMsrpPktTx OID:

Select a Hirschmann HiOS Platform2 industrial switch (802.1Qat/Qav MSRP stream reservation) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hm2AgentDot1qMrpMsrpPktTx into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The number of frames was transmitted. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
