Description: Hirschmann HiOS (HM2) MVRP MIB for Multiple VLAN Registration Protocol (IEEE 802.1ak) configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HM2-PLATFORM-MVRP-MIB?

HM2-PLATFORM-MVRP-MIB is a Hirschmann HiOS proprietary MIB implementing IEEE 802.1ak Multiple VLAN Registration Protocol (MVRP) configuration and statistics for Hirschmann switch platforms. It exposes per-port MVRP mode settings, bridge-wide MVRP mode and MRP periodic state-machine configuration, and packet-level statistics for MVRP PDUs transmitted and received. Its monitoring value is protocol-health focused: administrators track MVRP packet counters (transmitted, received, and various error categories like bad header/format) to verify that dynamic VLAN registration is functioning correctly across the switch fabric, and abnormal error counts indicate interoperability or cabling problems. It directly depends on and extends the IEEE 802.1Q/802.1ak standards for VLAN registration protocol behavior. It is deployed on Hirschmann industrial Ethernet switches in networks using dynamic VLAN propagation rather than static VLAN configuration, where HM2-PLATFORM-MVRP-MIB SNMP monitoring helps confirm MVRP is registering VLANs correctly across the fabric.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HM2-PLATFORM-MVRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hirschmann HiOS industrial Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An engineer checks hm2AgentDot1qPortMvrpTable (via hm2AgentDot1qPortMvrpEntry, indexed by hm2AgentDot1qMvrpPort) to confirm hm2AgentDot1qPortMvrpMode is enabled on trunk ports, and reviews hm2AgentDot1qBridgeMvrpMode for the bridge-wide setting. The hm2AgentDot1qMrpMvrpStatsTable exposes counters like hm2AgentDot1qMrpMvrpPktTx, hm2AgentDot1qMrpMvrpPktRx, hm2AgentDot1qMrpMvrpPktRxBadHeader, and hm2AgentDot1qMrpMvrpPktTxFailure per port. A rising hm2AgentDot1qMrpMvrpPktRxBadFormat count on one link would point to a misbehaving neighbor device or a protocol version mismatch affecting VLAN propagation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port MVRP mode
  • bridge-wide MVRP mode
  • MVRP packets transmitted/received
  • MVRP bad header/format error counts
  • MVRP transmit failures

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hm2AgentDot1qMrpMvrpPktTx OID:

Select a Hirschmann HiOS Platform2 industrial switch (802.1ak MVRP) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hm2AgentDot1qMrpMvrpPktTx into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The total number of MVRP PDUs that were transmitted by the device. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
