Description: Hirschmann HiOS (HM2) link backup MIB for configuring active/standby uplink redundancy on Hirschmann switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HM2-LINK-BACKUP-MIB?
HM2-LINK-BACKUP-MIB is a Hirschmann HiOS (HM2 platform) proprietary MIB for the Link Backup feature, which provides active/standby uplink redundancy so a backup interface automatically takes over if the primary uplink fails. It exposes per-interface configuration for primary/backup interface pairing, fail-back behavior, and delay timing, plus notifications for state changes. Its monitoring value is squarely on fault/failover status: hm2LinkBackupPrimaryInterfaceStatus and hm2LinkBackupBackupInterfaceStatus report whether each link is up or down, hm2LinkBackupFailBackEnable/hm2LinkBackupFailBackDelay describe recovery behavior, and hm2LinkBackupNotifications generate traps when a failover occurs — all central to detecting an uplink failure condition. It relies on the standard IF-MIB for the underlying interface indices referenced by hm2LinkBackupPrimaryInterface/hm2LinkBackupBackupInterface. It is deployed on Hirschmann industrial Ethernet switches in ring/redundant-uplink topologies common in factory automation and utility networks. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HM2-LINK-BACKUP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HM2-LINK-BACKUP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Hirschmann HiOS-based industrial Ethernet switches
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll hm2LinkBackupInterfaceConfigTable/hm2LinkBackupInterfaceConfigEntry to check hm2LinkBackupPrimaryInterfaceStatus for a given pairing; if it shows down while hm2LinkBackupBackupInterfaceStatus shows up, the switch has failed over to its backup uplink. Monitoring hm2LinkBackupFailBackEnable and hm2LinkBackupFailBackDelay confirms whether the switch will automatically revert once the primary interface recovers. A trap from hm2LinkBackupNotifications provides near-real-time alerting of the failover event to a management station.
What Can Be Monitored
- primary interface link status
- backup interface link status
- fail-back enable state and delay
- link backup row status
- failover state-change notifications
