Description: Hirschmann HIQ feature licensing MIB for managing software feature licenses on Hirschmann HIQ switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HIQ-FEAT-LIC-MIB?

HIQ-FEAT-LIC-MIB is a Hirschmann proprietary MIB for managing software feature licenses across the HIQ, HiPath, and PS device families, controlling which optional features are unlocked on a given switch. It exposes license-related configuration and state data describing which features are licensed and their activation status, rather than traffic or environmental telemetry. Its monitoring relevance is purely software/licensing status — confirming that purchased features remain licensed and active, and flagging cases where a license has expired or a feature is running unlicensed — rather than hardware health metrics. It has no dependency on external IETF standards beyond general SNMP conventions, being an entirely vendor-private licensing scheme. It is deployed on Hirschmann industrial/managed switches where administrators need to verify optional feature entitlements remain valid. Engineers can download the HIQ-FEAT-LIC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HIQ-FEAT-LIC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Siemens Network Convergence LLC devices (hiQ8000/9200, HiPath, and PS switch families)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were captured for this module, so specific object names cannot be confirmed. In general, an administrator would expect to poll license-status objects to confirm a given feature license is active and check for any license expiration or violation condition before relying on an optional feature in production. Without the concrete schema, this should be treated as an inferred rather than verified monitoring workflow.

What Can Be Monitored

  • licensed feature status
  • license activation/expiration state

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hiqFeatLicTrunkAverageUsage OID:

Select a Siemens Network Convergence device (HIQ/HiPath/PS feature licensing) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hiqFeatLicTrunkAverageUsage into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The average usage within one hour. License Manager will take snapshots of current usage counter every 5 minutes and get the average of the values during an hour. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value drifts significantly from its normal baseline, since an unexpected change often points to a real underlying issue. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
