Category: Wireless and WLAN
Description: Aironet AP80 proprietary wireless access point radio and association management.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is AP80-PRIVATE-MIB?
AP80-PRIVATE-MIB is a proprietary MIB for the Aironet AP80 wireless access point, an early product from Aironet Wireless Communications (later acquired into the Cisco Aironet line). It exposes device identification and firmware version objects, serial console line configuration, a port table, and a system-notification tree for traps. Its monitoring value strongly emphasizes hardware/software inventory status: hardware revision, boot ROM version, and operating-code (firmware) version let an admin verify exactly what's running on the AP and identify units overdue for a firmware upgrade, while the line/port tables expose serial console settings used for out-of-band management. It is a standalone, vendor-proprietary MIB that predates Cisco's later standardized access-point MIBs. It is deployed on legacy Aironet AP80 units in enterprise wireless LAN deployments, where AP80-PRIVATE-MIB SNMP monitoring is often still used to track firmware currency ahead of eventual replacement.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AP80-PRIVATE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Aruba Networks outdoor wireless access point (Accton-manufactured, legacy)
Monitoring Examples
Polling swHardwareVer, swBootRomVer, swOpCodeVer, and swSerialNumber gives an inventory snapshot of an AP80's hardware revision, boot ROM version, and firmware (operating code) version, useful for identifying units that need a firmware upgrade. lineTable/lineEntry (lineIndex, lineDataBits, lineParity, lineSpeed, lineStopBits) exposes the serial console line configuration for out-of-band access, and sysNotifications carries device-generated traps for status-change events.
What Can Be Monitored
- hardware version
- boot ROM version
- operating code (firmware) version
- device serial number
- serial console line settings
- system notifications/traps
