Category: Environmental Monitoring

Description: Monitors fan speed and operational status on Hillstone Networks appliances.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HILLSTONE-FAN-MIB?

HILLSTONE-FAN-MIB is a compact vendor-specific SNMP module from Hillstone Networks, Inc. that models the cooling fans installed in Hillstone's security appliances (firewalls/UTM devices built on the HILLSTONE-SMI enterprise tree). It exposes a single hillstoneFanNumber scalar giving the fan count and a hillstoneFanTable indexed by hillstoneFanIndex, with each row reporting hillstoneFanDescr, hillstoneFanType (whether the row's meaningful field is speed or state), hillstoneFanSpeed, and hillstoneFanState. This lets monitoring tools poll cooling-hardware health directly rather than inferring it from generic chassis alarms, and it is deployed alongside the vendor's other HILLSTONE-SMI-derived hardware and system MIBs; it is a small, targeted module well suited to SNMP monitoring dashboards, and administrators typically add it for HILLSTONE-FAN-MIB SNMP monitoring of appliance cooling status.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HILLSTONE-FAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hillstone Networks security appliances (firewall/UTM chassis)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls hillstoneFanState across all rows of hillstoneFanTable to check the cooling status of each fan slot, and a value of fail, absent, or fail-or-nopower instead of fine would indicate a failed or missing fan module requiring immediate hardware replacement to prevent thermal shutdown.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Total installed fan count
  • Per-slot fan description and type
  • Fan speed reading
  • Fan operational state (fine/absent/warning/fail/fail-or-nopower)
