Category: Technology: Network Monitoring, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: HH3C MIB for network statistics and network-level monitoring on H3C routers and switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-NS-MIB?

HH3C-NS-MIB (Network Statistics) is an H3C enterprise MIB for configuring and monitoring flow-based traffic statistics collection on H3C routers and switches. It classifies IP traffic by source/destination address, source/destination port, protocol, ToS, and input interface, then counts octets and packets per flow before exporting the aggregated statistics to an external collector. The MIB's monitoring value is primarily traffic/performance-counter oriented, letting an operator track per-flow byte and packet counts and confirm the export process to the collector is functioning, which is a software/operational health signal for the statistics feature itself rather than physical hardware. It operates as an adjunct to interface-level counters, implying a relationship to standard IF-MIB interface statistics since flows are tied to an input interface index. Typical deployment is on H3C core/edge routers used for traffic engineering, capacity planning, or billing based on granular flow statistics. Engineers can download the HH3C-NS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-NS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C core/edge router

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would configure flow classification keys (source/destination IP, port, protocol, ToS, input interface) and then poll the resulting per-flow octet and packet counters to build a traffic profile, watching for an unexpected surge in packets from one source IP that could indicate a DoS attack or misbehaving application. Confirming the statistics-export process is regularly delivering records to the configured collector verifies the feature is operationally healthy rather than silently failing. Exact table/object names were not available in this batch's sample objects, so field names should be confirmed against the MIB source.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-flow packet/octet counts
  • traffic classification by 5-tuple plus ToS
  • statistics export/collector delivery status
  • per-input-interface flow accounting

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hh3cNSExportStream OID:

Select an H3C core/edge router as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hh3cNSExportStream into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This object counts the exported streams. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
