Category: Technology: Loop Detection, Technology: Switching/L2, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Manages H3C Device Link Detection Protocol version 2 (DLDP2) for enhanced unidirectional link fault detection.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-DLDP2-MIB?

HH3C-DLDP2-MIB is an H3C proprietary MIB for the second version of the Device Link Detection Protocol, a Layer 2 mechanism used to detect and automatically shut down unidirectional Ethernet links (common on fiber connections) before they cause loops or blackholed traffic. It exposes global configuration (detection interval, authentication mode/password, whether to shut down unidirectional ports) as well as per-port configuration and status tables reporting each port's DLDP enable state, operational status, and link status. This MIB is centrally about hardware link/port health monitoring: hh3cDldp2PortOperStatus and hh3cDldp2PortLinkStatus tell an operator whether a specific physical port has been detected as unidirectional and administratively disabled by DLDP, which is a direct physical-layer fault indicator. It is conceptually related to Spanning Tree/loop-prevention mechanisms but is an H3C-specific protocol without a direct IETF standard equivalent. It is deployed on H3C switches interconnected via fiber links where undetected unidirectional failures would otherwise cause network loops, and administrators can download the HH3C-DLDP2-MIB file to integrate it into their SNMP management tools.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-DLDP2-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll hh3cDldp2PortStatusTable/hh3cDldp2PortStatusEntry for each interface's hh3cDldp2PortOperStatus and hh3cDldp2PortLinkStatus to confirm all DLDP-enabled ports report a bidirectional, healthy link. If a fiber transceiver degrades such that only one direction of a link functions, DLDP will detect the anomaly and hh3cDldp2PortLinkStatus will change to reflect a unidirectional fault, potentially triggering hh3cDldp2UniShutdown to disable the port automatically. Reviewing hh3cDldp2PortConfigTable/hh3cDldp2PortConfigEntry alongside hh3cDldp2Interval confirms detection timing is configured consistently across the ring or link-aggregation group.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port DLDP operational status
  • per-port link status (bidirectional/unidirectional)
  • DLDP global enable state
  • detection interval
  • authentication mode
  • unidirectional shutdown trap events
