Last Updated: 2014-03-18

Category: Device Management, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Manages virtualization contexts (virtual device instances) on H3C multi-context network platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-CONTEXT-MIB?

HH3C-CONTEXT-MIB manages virtualization "contexts" — isolated virtual device instances — on H3C multi-context network platforms, letting a single physical chassis run multiple logically separate device instances. It exposes a context control table mapping context indices to names, along with control operations and notification objects for context-related events. Monitoring-wise it tracks the operational/configuration state of each virtual context (present, running, named) and delivers traps when a context's state changes, a software-status concern analogous to monitoring virtual-machine lifecycle rather than physical sensors. It has an implicit dependency on the underlying platform's chassis/slot MIBs since contexts run atop physical hardware resources. It is deployed on H3C multi-tenant or multi-instance routing/switching platforms where network functions are virtualized within a single chassis. Engineers can download the HH3C-CONTEXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-CONTEXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C multi-context routers/switches (virtualized platforms)

Monitoring Examples

hh3cContextControlTable/hh3cContextControlEntry list each hh3cContextIndex with its hh3cContextName, letting an admin confirm which virtual contexts are provisioned and named correctly. hh3cContextNotification/hh3cContextNotificationObjects define traps sent when a context is created, deleted, or changes state, which an NMS would use to alert on an unexpected context going down.

What Can Be Monitored

  • context index/name mapping
  • context creation/deletion status
  • context state-change notifications
