Category: DSL and Broadband

Description: Manages HDSL GT1020 line termination units, providing performance monitoring and alarm objects for DSL loops.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HDSLGT1020-MIB?

HDSLGT1020-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from GDC (General DataComm) for the HDSL GT1020 line termination unit, used to terminate High-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line circuits at a telco or customer premises for leased digital-line access over copper. It exposes a MIB-version identifier, system and firmware version objects, and an alarms group (hdslGT1020Alarms) reporting no-response, diagnostic receive-error, and power-up alarm conditions, consistent with GDC's other HDSL modem MIBs. Its role is hardware/fault-status monitoring of the DSL loop and line-termination unit — flagging when the remote end stops responding, when the loop shows elevated receive errors, or when the unit has power-cycled, the key indicators of physical line degradation or unit failure for this class of equipment. It is a legacy, self-contained modem MIB with no significant dependency on IETF standard MIBs beyond baseline SNMP conventions, sharing a common design pattern with GDC's other HDSL-family MIBs. It's deployed at telco central offices or customer demarcation points terminating HDSL circuits via a GT1020 unit. Engineers can download the HDSLGT1020-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HDSLGT1020-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • GDC HDSL GT1020 line termination unit

Monitoring Examples

An operator would monitor hdslGT1020Alarms, particularly hdslGT1020NoResponseAlm, to detect loss of communication with the paired remote unit, and hdslGT1020DiagRxErrAlm to catch rising receive-side errors that often precede a full loop failure. hdslGT1020PowerUpAlm activating would indicate the unit recently rebooted, which combined with a customer trouble ticket helps confirm a power event as the root cause. gdcGT1020SystemMIBversion and hdslGT1020Version would be checked to verify the unit's firmware revision during a support escalation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • no-response alarm
  • diagnostic receive-error alarm
  • power-up (reboot) alarm
  • system/firmware version
