What Is HDR2-MIB?

HDR2-MIB is a vendor extension module covering configuration of HDR2-style channel-associated-signaling (CAS) trunk interfaces, exposing per-channel telephony signaling parameters such as register signaling type, line signaling type, A-law/mu-law companding selection, and digit-collection timers. The usr/common object branches among its sample objects suggest it originates from a legacy telephony/access-server vendor in the U.S. Robotics/3Com lineage rather than a modern IETF standard. Its data is entirely configuration-oriented rather than hardware-health-oriented: the hdr2CfgTable exposes per-channel signaling and addressing settings, so its monitoring value is confirming that each trunk channel is provisioned with the expected signaling type and companding law and detecting configuration drift across channels. It does not appear to build on a broader standard voice MIB and instead defines its own private structure for this specific chassis family. It is typically deployed on legacy digital access/telephony chassis carrying E1/T1 trunks with CAS signaling in carrier or enterprise voice-access environments. Engineers can download the HDR2-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

The hdr2CfgTable, indexed by hdr2CfgIndex, exposes per-channel objects like hdr2CfgRegSigType and hdr2CfgLineSigType to show which signaling protocol variant is active on a channel, and hdr2CfgAlawMulaw to show the companding law in use. An administrator troubleshooting one-way audio or dropped calls on a specific trunk channel would poll hdr2CfgForcedRel and hdr2CfgLastBDigTout to check forced-release and digit-timeout behavior on that channel. A channel reporting an unexpected hdr2CfgLineSigType relative to its peers would indicate a provisioning mismatch likely responsible for call-setup failures.
