Description: H3C MIB for N_Port Virtualization (NPV) in Fibre Channel SANs managing proxy N_Port connections to the fabric.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is H3C-NPV-MIB?
This is a vendor-specific MIB from H3C for managing N_Port Virtualization (NPV) on its Fibre Channel SAN switches, a feature that lets edge switches pass traffic to an NPV core switch without consuming a full Fibre Channel domain ID. It exposes configuration objects for traffic-map load balancing across VSANs, mapping of server-facing (proxy) ports to external uplink ports, and tables describing server interfaces and their associated external interface indices. Its monitoring value centers on configuration/operational status of the SAN fabric edge: administrators check h3cNpvTrafficMapConfigTable entries and h3cNpvTrafficMapLastChange to confirm traffic distribution across uplinks is correctly configured and stable, and inspect h3cNpvServerIfTable to verify which server-facing ports are mapped to which external (core-facing) interfaces, revealing misconfigured or failed proxy-port mappings. It depends conceptually on Fibre Channel fabric standards (FC-SW, VSAN concepts as used in Cisco/H3C SAN implementations) though it is a private H3C module. It is deployed on H3C Fibre Channel or FCoE switches operating in NPV mode at the edge of a storage area network. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the H3C-NPV-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-NPV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C Fibre Channel/FCoE SAN switch operating in NPV mode
Monitoring Examples
An admin inspects h3cNpvTrafficMapConfigTable/h3cNpvTrafficMapConfigEntry, checking h3cNpvTrafficMapExternalIfIndexList and h3cNpvTrafficMapRowStatus to confirm a VSAN's traffic is load-balanced across the intended set of external uplinks, and watches h3cNpvTrafficMapLastChange to detect an unexpected reconfiguration. The h3cNpvServerIfTable (h3cNpvServerIfEntry, keyed by h3cNpvExternalIfIndex) is polled to verify each server-facing NPV port is correctly bound to a core-facing external interface, catching a server port left unmapped after a topology change. h3cNpvLoadbalanceVsan reports the global VSAN load-balancing policy in effect.
What Can Be Monitored
- VSAN traffic load-balancing configuration
- traffic map last-change timestamp
- server-facing to external interface port mapping
- NPV traffic map row status
