Description: H3C MIB for multicast snooping (IGMP/MLD snooping) managing group memberships and per-port multicast forwarding.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-MULTICAST-SNOOPING-MIB?

H3C-MULTICAST-SNOOPING-MIB is an H3C enterprise MIB for managing IGMP/MLD Snooping, a Layer 2 feature that inspects multicast group membership signaling to build per-port forwarding state and avoid flooding multicast traffic to all switch ports. It exposes a global configuration table covering the snooping type (IGMP/MLD), row status, entry limits, host/router aging timers, maximum response time, and last-member query interval, as well as objects for dropping traffic for unknown multicast groups, plus a virtual-unit (stacking) configuration table. Its monitoring value is centered on software/protocol configuration and operational status: confirming snooping is enabled and correctly timed (aging/response intervals), and verifying whether unknown multicast traffic is being dropped as intended to prevent unnecessary flooding, which affects multicast application performance across the switch. It is built on and dependent on the IETF IGMP (RFC 3376) and MLD (RFC 2710) protocols that it snoops, extending them with H3C-specific configuration objects. It is typically deployed on H3C enterprise switches (including stacked/virtual-unit deployments) in networks running IPTV, video conferencing, or other multicast applications. Engineers can download the H3C-MULTICAST-SNOOPING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-MULTICAST-SNOOPING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C enterprise switch (including stacked/virtual-unit deployments)
  • H3C enterprise switches (IGMP/MLD snooping, including IRF stacks)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls h3cMcsGlobalConfigTable (h3cMcsGlobalConfigEntry: h3cMcsGlbSnoopingType, h3cMcsGlbHostAgingTime, h3cMcsGlbRouterAgingTime, h3cMcsGlbMaxResponseTime, h3cMcsGlbLastMemQryInterval) to confirm IGMP/MLD snooping timers match the network's expected join/leave latency requirements. If multicast video streams are being flooded to ports that shouldn't receive them, checking h3cMcsGlbDropUnknownEnabled reveals whether unknown-multicast-group suppression is disabled, and h3cMcsGlbEntryLimit can be checked to see if the snooping table has hit its maximum group-entry capacity, explaining why new group memberships aren't being learned; h3cMcsVirtualUnitConfigTable would additionally be checked on stacked switches to confirm consistent snooping configuration across stack members.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IGMP/MLD snooping enable state and type
  • host/router aging timers
  • max response time and last-member-query interval
  • unknown multicast traffic drop setting
  • multicast group entry limit/table utilization
