Description: H3C MIB for MPLS OAM protection switching managing path protection and failover for MPLS LSPs.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is H3C-MPLSOAM-PS-MIB?
H3C-MPLSOAM-PS-MIB is an H3C (Hangzhou Huawei-3Com) enterprise MIB for managing MPLS OAM-based protection switching, allowing a working label-switched path (LSP) to fail over to a protect LSP when a fault is detected. It exposes configuration and state data for protection groups, including the work/protect LSP names, revertive mode, wait-to-restore (WTR) timers, hold-off timers, and switch conditions, along with trap enable controls. Its monitoring value is primarily operational/software status: it lets an administrator watch the work LSP detect state to see if the primary path has failed, confirm whether a protection group has already switched to its protect path, and receive traps the moment a protection switch event occurs, effectively acting as a fault/failover status monitor for the MPLS forwarding plane. It builds on the standard MPLS and MPLS OAM concepts defined in IETF MPLS MIBs and is only meaningful on devices running MPLS with configured protection groups. It is typically deployed on H3C carrier-grade routers and switches in MPLS backbone or metro networks where fast LSP protection switching is required for service continuity. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the H3C-MPLSOAM-PS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-MPLSOAM-PS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C/HPE Comware MPLS-capable routers and switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll h3cMplsPsTable (h3cMplsPsEntry), indexed by h3cMplsPsIndex/h3cMplsPsGroupID, to see the h3cMplsPsWorkLspName and h3cMplsPsProtectLspName paired in a protection group, along with h3cMplsPsWorkLspDetectState showing whether the primary path has failed. A change in h3cMplsPsSwitchCondition, or a notification from h3cMplsOamPsNotifications when h3cMplsOamPsTrapOpen is enabled, indicates traffic has switched to the protect LSP, prompting investigation of the working path; h3cMplsPsRevertiveMode and h3cMplsPsWTR are then checked to see whether and when traffic will revert automatically.
What Can Be Monitored
- MPLS protection group status
- working vs. protect LSP assignment
- working LSP fault/detect state
- protection switch condition/trigger
- revertive mode and wait-to-restore timer
- protection switch trap notifications
