What Is H3C-HPEOC-MIB?

H3C-HPEOC-MIB is an H3C (Hangzhou Huawei-3Com) MIB for managing High-Performance Ethernet over Coax (HPEOC), a broadband access technology based on the HomePlug AV specification carried over coaxial cable. It exposes configuration and status data for both the head-end CLT (central line termination) unit and the remote CNU (customer network unit) devices in an EOC access network, including VLAN mapping, Ethernet port settings, and system identity information. This MIB is used heavily to monitor hardware and software status of the access devices, including CLT/CNU system description, firmware version (h3cHPEOCCltFwVersion), broadcast control settings, and per-device connectivity/cable status via objects like h3cHPEOCCableInfo. It is a vendor-specific H3C module and is not known to depend on external standard MIBs beyond baseline SNMP framework MIBs. It is typically deployed in FTTx/coax broadband access networks where H3C EOC head-end and customer units extend Ethernet service over existing coaxial cabling, and operators managing these networks rely on the H3C-HPEOC-MIB MIB to expose head-end and customer-unit status via SNMP.

Monitoring Examples

An operator could poll h3cHPEOCCltSysManTable/h3cHPEOCCltSysManEntry for the CLT head-end's h3cHPEOCCltDescr and h3cHPEOCCltFwVersion to confirm the head-end unit is running the expected firmware, and poll h3cHPEOCCnuSysManTable/h3cHPEOCCnuSysManEntry for each customer unit's h3cHPEOCCnuBcastControl and h3cHPEOCCnuAnonymStatus to detect a CNU that has lost its broadcast configuration or fallen into an unrecognized/anonymous state. Checking h3cHPEOCCltVlanManTable entries against expected h3cHPEOCCltVlanType values would reveal a VLAN misconfiguration causing service isolation on a given port.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using h3cHPEOCFECErrors OID:

Select an H3C EOC head-end (CLT)/customer premise (CNU) device (HomePlug AV over coax) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type h3cHPEOCFECErrors into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The cable port's FEC bits errors ratio. FEC means the payload Forward Error Correction. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
