Description: H3C MIB for Digital Signal Processor (DSP) resource management in voice gateways monitoring DSP utilization.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-DSP-MIB?

H3C-DSP-MIB is a vendor-specific H3C MIB that models the status of Digital Signal Processor (DSP) resources on voice gateway hardware, specifically Voice Process Module (VPM) cards and the individual DSPs mounted on them. The h3cVPMStatusTable reports per-VPM-card state (normal/warning/fatal/offline), current and historical high-water DSP resource utilization, and maximum supported channels, while the h3cDSPStatusTable reports per-DSP state, reset time, and channel usage (h3cDSPMaxChannel, h3cDSPInUseChannel). Two notifications, h3cVPMStateChange and h3cDSPStateChange, alert when a card or chip transitions state so operators don't have to poll continuously. Monitoring this MIB is important for voice gateway capacity planning and fault detection, since DSP resources handle call transcoding and voice compression, so exhausted or failed DSP capacity directly causes call setup failures or degraded voice quality. It's deployed on H3C voice gateway platforms with VPM cards, and administrators can download the H3C-DSP-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-DSP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C voice gateway platforms with Voice Process Module (VPM) cards

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls h3cVPMStatusTable for h3cVPMResourceUtilization approaching h3cVPMHiWaterUtilization while h3cVPMState remains normal(1); a transition to warning(2) or fatal(3), or h3cDSPInUseChannel reaching h3cDSPMaxChannel across DSPs on that card, would indicate the gateway is running out of voice-processing capacity and new calls may be rejected.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VPM card operational state (normal/warning/fatal/offline)
  • DSP resource utilization and historical high-water mark
  • DSP/VPM maximum vs. in-use channel counts
  • per-DSP state and last reset time
  • VPM/DSP state-change notifications

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using h3cVPMState OID:

Select an H3C voice gateway platform (Voice Process Module/DSP resources) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type h3cVPMState into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The current state of the VPM card being monitored — normal, warning, fatal, or off-line. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'normal', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
