What Is H3C-DOT11-REF-MIB?

H3C-DOT11-REF-MIB is an H3C (Hangzhou Huawei-3Com, now part of New H3C Technologies) MIB defining common 802.11 wireless textual conventions and reference objects reused across H3C's family of WLAN-related MIB modules, functionally mirroring the near-identical HP Networking HPN-ICF-DOT11-REF-MIB (reflecting the two vendors' shared engineering heritage). It exposes access-point and radio element inventory data—AP identity, template name, serial ID, and model alias—along with per-radio attributes like radio number, policy, and index. Its monitoring relevance centers on wireless hardware inventory and identity: h3cDot11APElementSerialID and h3cDot11APElementModelAlias let an operator confirm which physical AP hardware and radio modules are deployed, serving as a structural foundation rather than deep runtime statistics. It exists specifically to be imported by other H3C 802.11-specific MIBs (radio performance, client association, etc.), giving it a direct dependency relationship with those sibling modules and the IEEE 802.11a/b/g standards it documents. It is deployed in enterprise wireless LAN environments built on H3C access points and wireless controllers. The H3C-DOT11-REF-MIB OID space itself is imported directly by those sibling dot11 modules rather than queried on its own.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll h3cDot11APElementTable/h3cDot11APElementEntry, indexed by h3cDot11APElementIndex, to confirm the h3cDot11APElementSerialID and h3cDot11APElementModelAlias of each deployed access point match inventory records. The h3cDot11RadioElementTable/h3cDot11RadioElementEntry rows would be checked for h3cDot11RadioElementRadioPolicy and h3cDot11RadioElementRadioNum to verify each AP's radios are configured with the expected wireless standard/policy. Because this is a reference/textual-convention MIB, actual runtime performance counters (signal strength, client counts, throughput) would be found in other H3C dot11 MIBs that build on these definitions.
