Description: A Greenbone Networks MIB covering monitoring of vulnerability management appliances, including scan status and overall system health.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is GREENBONE-PRODUCT-MIB?
GREENBONE-PRODUCT-MIB is Greenbone Networks' MIB for reporting basic product identity and version information on its vulnerability management appliances (Greenbone Security Manager/OpenVAS-based scanners). It exposes hardware and software product name and version fields, including productName, hwName, swName, and detailed swVersionMajor/Minor/Patch/Revision components, grouped under productHardware and productSoftware objects. Its monitoring value is centered on software status: confirming which scan engine/feed software version is running, important for verifying that vulnerability signature updates and appliance firmware are current and supported. It is a standalone vendor-private identity MIB with no apparent dependency on other standard MIBs. It is deployed on Greenbone Security Manager (GSM) vulnerability scanning appliances in enterprise security operations environments. Engineers can download the GREENBONE-PRODUCT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GREENBONE-PRODUCT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Greenbone Security Manager (GSM) vulnerability scanning appliance
Monitoring Examples
An admin polling productName and hwName/swName can confirm exactly which Greenbone appliance model and software build is running, while swVersion (built from swVersionMajor, swVersionMinor, swVersionPatch, swVersionRevision) lets automated inventory tools detect when a scanner is running outdated software that needs a feed or firmware update. This is primarily an identity/version-check MIB rather than one exposing live scan-job counters.
What Can Be Monitored
- product/hardware name
- software name
- software version (major/minor/patch/revision)
