Category: Domain: Security, Vendor: Dell

Description: Manages SSH server configuration, keys, and session parameters on Dell network switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-SSH-MIB?

Dell-SSH-MIB is a Dell private MIB for managing the SSH server configuration on Dell network switches, covering host key management and client/server settings. It exposes tables of SSH server host public keys (by algorithm), key fragments for keys too large for a single SNMP value, and key fingerprints (with configurable digest format), alongside general SSH server and client configuration objects. Its monitoring role is focused on software/security configuration status: confirming which host key algorithms are present, verifying a key's fingerprint matches an expected value (to detect an unexpected key regeneration, which could indicate device replacement or a security event), and checking SSH server/client operational settings. This module depends on general SSH protocol concepts and Dell's broader security/authentication MIB set, though it is not tied to an IETF SSH MIB standard. It is deployed on Dell switches wherever secure remote CLI management via SSH is enabled and key management/auditing is required. Engineers can download the Dell-SSH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-SSH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell network switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would walk rlSshServerHostPublicKeyTable/rlSshServerHostPublicKeyTableEntry to enumerate host key algorithms via rlSshServerHostPublicKeyAlgorithm, reassembling large keys from rlSshServerHostPublicKeyFragmentText fragments identified by rlSshServerHostPublicKeyFragmentId. Separately, rlSshServerHostPublicKeyFingerprintTable/Entry exposes rlSshServerHostPublicKeyFingerprint in the format set by rlSshServerHostPublicKeyFingerprintDigestFormat, which an admin would compare against a known-good value. An unexpected change in the host key fingerprint between polls would indicate the SSH host key was regenerated, which is either a planned maintenance event or a potential security concern worth investigating.
