Description: PEPWAVE GRE tunnel MIB for managing Generic Routing Encapsulation tunnel configuration and status on PEPWAVE devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is GRE?

GRE is a Peplink/Pepwave vendor MIB for managing Generic Routing Encapsulation tunnels on Pepwave routers and gateways, covering configuration and status of GRE tunnel interfaces used to encapsulate traffic between sites or to a cloud endpoint. It exposes GRE tunnel configuration parameters, such as local/remote tunnel endpoint addresses and tunnel keys, along with the operational up/down status of each configured tunnel. Its monitoring purpose is centered on the software/connectivity status of WAN tunnels rather than physical hardware sensors: confirming a GRE tunnel's operational state is essential for detecting a broken site-to-site or SD-WAN overlay link before it causes an outage for traffic relying on that tunnel. It builds on the concepts of the standard GRE protocol (RFC 2784) though implemented as a Pepwave private MIB rather than a standard IETF tunnel MIB. It is deployed on Pepwave/Peplink routers and SD-WAN appliances using GRE tunnels for site interconnection. Engineers can download the GRE file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GRE. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Pepwave/Peplink router or SD-WAN gateway

Monitoring Examples

No object or table names were extracted for this module, so a concrete polling example cannot be grounded in real identifiers; in general use, an administrator would monitor the operational status of each configured GRE tunnel interface, where a tunnel reporting down despite an up physical WAN interface would indicate a GRE-specific configuration or remote-endpoint reachability problem.

What Can Be Monitored

  • GRE tunnel configuration (endpoints, keys)
  • GRE tunnel operational up/down status
