Description: Pairgain Technology MIB for monitoring LAN traffic tunneling over DSL access networks for bridged Ethernet service delivery.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is LAN-TUNNELING-MIB?
LAN-TUNNELING-MIB is a Pairgain Technology enterprise MIB for configuring LAN traffic tunneling over DSL access lines, allowing bridged Ethernet frames to be carried across an ATM-based DSL access network. It exposes a single tunneling table mapping a LAN-facing channel port to a DSL line port, along with the ATM VPI/VCI and encapsulation mode used for that tunnel. Its monitoring focus is configuration/software status rather than hardware: confirming which channel port is bound to which line port, with what VPI/VCI and encapsulation mode, and whether the row is active, is key to diagnosing why bridged traffic isn't passing over a given DSL tunnel. It is tied to the underlying ATM transport (VPI/VCI addressing) used on Pairgain's DSL access equipment. It was typically deployed on Pairgain DSL access multiplexers/modems providing bridged Ethernet service delivery over DSL. Engineers can download the LAN-TUNNELING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LAN-TUNNELING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Pairgain DSL access multiplexer / modem
Monitoring Examples
An operator can inspect pgLantTable entries (pgLantChannelPortIfIndex, pgLantLinePortIfIndex, pgLantVpi, pgLantVci) to confirm a LAN channel port is correctly tunneled to the right DSL line port over the expected ATM VPI/VCI, and check pgLantRowStatus to confirm the tunnel entry is active. A mismatched pgLantEncapMode between the two ends of the tunnel would explain bridged Ethernet frames failing to pass correctly.
What Can Be Monitored
- channel-to-line port tunnel mapping
- ATM VPI/VCI used for the tunnel
- encapsulation mode
- tunnel entry row status
