Description: Fore Systems switch redundancy MIB providing failover configuration and status objects for redundant switch processor and control modules.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Fore-Redundancy-MIB?

Fore-Redundancy-MIB is a Fore Systems vendor MIB written specifically for the ASX-4000 ATM switch, covering the failover behavior of redundant switching fabric and port-card modules. It exposes tables for fabric redundancy (admin mode, operational state, pending/committed configuration, cloning state, switch commands) and a parallel port-card redundancy table. This is squarely a hardware-status/high-availability monitoring MIB: it lets an operator confirm whether the standby fabric or port card is synchronized and ready to take over, and it can trigger or reflect a manual switchover, all core indicators of chassis-level hardware health. It stands alone as a vendor extension without dependency on standard high-availability MIBs, since redundancy schemes are highly implementation-specific. It is deployed on ASX-4000 chassis in carrier or enterprise ATM cores where continuous availability of the switching fabric is critical, and operators can get the Fore-Redundancy-MIB download to load into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Fore-Redundancy-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fore Systems ASX-4000 ATM switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll asx4000RedFabricOperState and asx4000RedFabricRedundancyState in asx4000RedFabricTable to verify the backup fabric card is in sync and ready, and would watch asx4000RedFabricCommittedState versus asx4000RedFabricPendingAdminMode during a planned failover to confirm the new configuration was actually applied. An unexpected change in asx4000RedFabricSwitchCommand or a stuck asx4000RedFabricCloningState would indicate the redundant fabric failed to take over cleanly. The companion asx4000RedPortCardTable would be checked the same way for port-card level redundancy.

What Can Be Monitored

  • fabric redundancy admin/operational state
  • fabric switchover command status
  • fabric cloning/sync state
  • port card redundancy state
