Description: Brocade Foundry MAC-based VLAN MIB providing configuration objects for assigning VLAN membership based on source MAC address on FastIron switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is FOUNDRY-MAC-VLAN-MIB?
FOUNDRY-MAC-VLAN-MIB is a Brocade (Foundry) proprietary MIB for FastIron and related switches that manages MAC-based VLAN assignment, a feature that dynamically places a port or client into a VLAN based on the source MAC address of incoming traffic rather than static port configuration. It exposes global configuration objects (dynamic-configuration enable state, clear-operation triggers), a per-port membership table mapping VLAN IDs to member ports, and a per-interface table controlling whether MAC-VLAN is enabled on that interface and how many entries it can hold. This MIB is primarily a configuration/software-state monitoring tool, letting an administrator confirm which ports have MAC-based VLAN assignment active and verify dynamic bindings are behaving as configured, useful for troubleshooting a device or user landing in the wrong VLAN. It builds on standard 802.1Q VLAN concepts and IF-MIB interface indexing that Brocade layers this feature on top of. It is deployed on Brocade/Foundry FastIron switches in campus access-layer networks using dynamic, identity-based VLAN assignment. Engineers can download the FOUNDRY-MAC-VLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FOUNDRY-MAC-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Brocade (Foundry) FastIron switches
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll fdryMacVlanPortMemberTable/fdryMacVlanPortMemberEntry to see each fdryMacVlanPortMemberVLanId to fdryMacVlanPortMemberPortId mapping and confirm a given port is correctly bound to the expected VLAN. Checking fdryMacVlanIfTable's fdryMacVlanIfEnable and fdryMacVlanIfMaxEntry per fdryMacVlanIfIndex reveals whether MAC-VLAN is actually enabled on an interface and whether it has hit its maximum entry capacity, which would explain new devices failing to get dynamically VLAN-assigned. The fdryMacVlanGlobalDynConfigState object shows whether dynamic MAC-VLAN configuration is globally enabled on the switch.
What Can Be Monitored
- MAC-to-VLAN port membership bindings
- per-interface MAC-VLAN enable state
- MAC-VLAN entry capacity/utilization per interface
- global dynamic MAC-VLAN configuration state
