Description: Fortinet FortiAnalyzer MIB providing SNMP management objects for the FortiAnalyzer log aggregation and network security analytics appliance.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is FORTINET-FORTIANALYZER-MIB?

FORTINET-FORTIANALYZER-MIB is Fortinet's vendor-specific SNMP module for FortiAnalyzer, its centralized log-collection and security-analytics appliance used across the FortiGate ecosystem. It exposes system-level fault and event objects, RAID array status for the appliance's log storage disks, and detailed IP session tracking data for traffic passing through or logged by the device. It is explicitly geared toward monitoring hardware and software status, most notably faGenAlert general system alerts, faSystemEvent notifications, and faRAIDStatus/faRAIDDevIndex for tracking the health of individual disks in the log-storage RAID array, which is critical since a degraded array threatens log retention. It depends on standard SNMP notification conventions and the shared Fortinet enterprise MIB tree for its OID registration. It is typically deployed in security operations centers where FortiAnalyzer aggregates logs from many FortiGate firewalls and must itself be monitored for storage and event-processing health. Engineers can download the FORTINET-FORTIANALYZER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FORTINET-FORTIANALYZER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fortinet FortiAnalyzer log aggregation and analytics appliance

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polling faRAIDDevIndex and faRAIDStatus across the RAID device table can detect a failed or degraded disk in the FortiAnalyzer's log storage array before it causes log loss. The faIpSessTable (with faIpSessFromAddr, faIpSessToAddr, faIpSessFromPort, faIpSessToPort) lets an operator inspect active IP sessions being tracked, useful for confirming the appliance is correctly ingesting traffic from monitored devices. faTraps with faTrapPrefix/faTrapObject deliver asynchronous notifications, such as faGenAlert, when a system event like a RAID failure or disk-space threshold breach occurs.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RAID array/disk status
  • system event alerts (faGenAlert)
  • active IP session tracking
  • trap/notification activity
  • general appliance health

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using faIpSessExp OID:

Select a Fortinet FortiAnalyzer log aggregation/analytics appliance as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type faIpSessExp into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of seconds remaining before the session expires (if idle). On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value stays unexpectedly high or low relative to what you'd expect for this timer, since that can indicate a stuck or stale state. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
