Description: Fibronics FCTR concentrator/ring MIB for managing token ring or FDDI concentrators and bridging components.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is FCTR-MIB?
FCTR-MIB is a Fibronics MIB for managing FCTR concentrator/ring devices, covering token-ring or FDDI concentrator and bridging components under the vendor's broader 'nbase'/switch management OID tree. It exposes management-type configuration for the concentrator, resource request/grant objects for ring bandwidth or timing (requested versus granted run values, requested permission levels), and a per-port status table. Its monitoring focus is on the operational and resource-allocation status of the ring/concentrator hardware: which management mode is active, whether requested ring resources were actually granted, and the per-port state reported in nbFctrPortsTable, which together reveal port-level or ring-access problems. It sits within Fibronics' broader nbase/nbSwitch MIB hierarchy, indicating dependency on that vendor's base switch management framework rather than a single standalone standard. It would have been deployed on legacy Fibronics token-ring/FDDI concentrator and bridging equipment. Engineers can download the FCTR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FCTR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nbase Communications (later Nbase-Xyplex) token-ring/FDDI concentrator equipment — Identified via enterprise OID 629 (nbase) and the nbFctr-prefixed objects, not Fibronics as previously described.
Monitoring Examples
An operator would check nbFctrMgmtType to confirm the concentrator's management mode, and compare nbFctrGlbReqRun against nbFctrGlbGrntdRun to see whether the ring resources the device requested were actually granted — a persistent mismatch would suggest ring bandwidth or timing contention. The nbFctrPortsTable would be polled per port to identify a port stuck in a non-operational state, and nbFctrGlbReqPerm would be checked when troubleshooting a permission-related ring access failure.
What Can Be Monitored
- concentrator management mode
- requested vs. granted ring resources
- per-port status
- ring access permission state
