Category: Vendor: Dell/DNOS
Description: Broadcom FastPath top-level MIB defining the enterprise OID registration tree and base objects for FastPath networking platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is FASTPATH-MIB?
FASTPATH-MIB is the top-level Broadcom FastPath enterprise MIB module that defines the root OID registration tree under which other FastPath-family MIBs (such as inventory, QoS/ACL, and NSF modules) register their own object subtrees. Rather than exposing operational data itself, it primarily establishes structural nodes like fastpathMib and various historically-named subtree branches (e.g., genericGroup, ethernet, aarp, alap, scc) inherited from the codebase's Bay Networks/Wellfleet lineage that FastPath's software reuses. Because it is a structural/registration module rather than a data-bearing one, it does not itself provide hardware or software status counters to poll; its role is architectural, anchoring the rest of the FastPath MIB family. It underpins essentially every other FastPath-family MIB (inventory, QoS-ACL, NSF, and vendor-specific derivatives like EdgeSwitch MIBs), which depend on the OID tree it defines. It is present on any Broadcom FastPath-based switch, though it is not a module an administrator would poll directly for monitoring. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the FASTPATH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FASTPATH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Broadcom FastPath-based network switches (used by multiple vendors)
Monitoring Examples
The sampled objects here (genericGroup, fastpathMib, scc, alap, ethernet, aarp) are OID tree/registration nodes rather than runtime data objects, so no concrete monitoring scenario applies to this module itself. This is honestly a foundational registration MIB — actual monitorable status and configuration objects live in the other FastPath-family MIBs (such as FASTPATH-INVENTORY-MIB) that register underneath the tree this module defines.
