Description: Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch UDLD (Unidirectional Link Detection) MIB for detecting and disabling unidirectional Ethernet links.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is EdgeSwitch-UDLD-MIB?

This MIB is a Ubiquiti Networks private module for EdgeSwitch (FastPath-based) switches, covering Unidirectional Link Detection (UDLD) — a Layer 2 protocol that detects Ethernet links that are only passing traffic in one direction. It exposes configuration data such as global UDLD mode, message/timeout intervals, and per-interface UDLD administrative mode and aggressive-mode settings, alongside operational status per interface. It is used primarily to monitor the software-reported link health/operational status of switch ports, flagging unidirectional link faults before they cause spanning-tree loops or blackholed traffic — a fault-detection rather than hardware-sensor function. It builds on the vendor's Broadcom FastPath agent framework rather than a formal IETF UDLD standard, since UDLD has no IETF MIB. It is typically deployed on Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch access/aggregation switches to catch miswired or partially-failed fiber/copper links in enterprise or campus networks, and administrators can download the EdgeSwitch-UDLD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EdgeSwitch-UDLD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch
  • Broadcom FastPath-based Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll agentUdldInterfaceTable/agentUdldInterfaceEntry per-port to read agentUdldInterfaceOperStatus and agentUdldInterfaceAdminMode, checking whether UDLD is enabled and whether it reports the link as bidirectional or unidirectional on each port. Persistent unidirectional status on a port with agentUdldInterfaceAggresiveMode enabled indicates the switch will soon shut the port down, so this is a leading indicator of an impending link fault. agentUdldGlobalMode, agentUdldMessageInterval, and agentUdldTimeoutInterval let the admin confirm the global feature is active and tuned appropriately, while agentUdldReset can be used to clear a stuck condition.

What Can Be Monitored

  • UDLD global mode
  • message interval
  • timeout interval
  • per-interface UDLD admin mode
  • per-interface operational (bidirectional/unidirectional) status
  • aggressive mode setting
